“As the preferred lighting control supplier for Rebel Light’s turnkey lighting solutions, we always recommend Philips Dynalite. Having worked with the system for the past 10 years, we know we can meet budget requirements, technical specifications, and lead times—no matter what the project demands. With millions of square meters of lighting controlled since we began working with Philips Dynalite, we know it’s a system that never fails.”

Daniel Andersson, CEO, Control Department

The Challenge

With outstanding lighting design and a carefully curated ambience, expectations for the lighting control system’s functionality and performance were exceptionally high.

The consulting firm, Eidra, was scheduled to move into a new office located at one of Stockholm’s most prestigious addresses. To help the office’s atmosphere match the caliber of its clientele, a reliable, flexible, and human-centric lighting control platform would be required.

Beyond its impressive lounge areas, the office features an elegant cocktail bar, an exclusive wine bar, and a spacious dining hall that rivals a fine dining restaurant in ambiance. Scheduled scenes must compliment the architect and lighting designer’s vision to uphold the luxury and exclusivity of the establishment. User control should be seamless, with options to override the scheduled scenes for special meetings and events.

Additionally, building efficiency was of high importance to the customer. The lighting control solution should take steps to optimise performance, reducing or eliminating unnecessary power consumption from lighting.

  • Scalable

The Dynalite system was integrated into the university’s expansive campus. The modularity of the system allows the lighting control system to grow and evolve with the university’s ongoing expansion through a centralised control platform.

  • Innovative

The project integrates Dynalite with multiple third-party systems, including the Q-Sys control system for audio-visual management, the university’s Building Management System (BMS), and a fire alarm relay. This integration creates a unified ecosystem that not only streamlines building operations but also enhances safety and energy management.

  • Sustainable

The Dynalite system is a critical part of the university’s efforts to reduce energy consumption. The system’s energy-efficient features, such as automated scheduling, daylight harvesting, and occupancy sensors, ensure that lighting is used only when necessary, contributing to the university’s broader sustainability goals.

The Solution

Technology integrator, Control Department AB, was engaged to bring the architect’s vision to life through lighting.

They regard Dynalite as one of the most comprehensive control systems on the market for this type of installation.

Control Department worked in close consultation with their client, enhancing their understanding of what a lighting control system could achieve.

 Effortless luxury

The tenant has been provided with a world-class lighting control system. Where they once had to turn the lights on and off via the circuit breaker in the electrical panel, they now have a dynamic space that anticipates the needs of users.

Control Department deployed clear lighting scenarios and programming that follows a consistent logic throughout the entire building, so that the responsible on-site staff feel confident in using the system. Since the office frequently hosts events and client meetings, it is crucial for staff to have the ability to manually override the daily lighting schedule with ease.

Simple, sustainable control

With a well-adapted profile in System Manager, facility management can manually select different preset lighting scenes for each floor. During the day, daylight sensors adjust the office lighting to ensure optimal brightness and support productivity among employees. In the evening, however, a softer, more homely ambiance is achieved.

The ability to log usage and regularly monitor the system to fine-tune it for maximum efficiency was a key priority in this project. With a service agreement and a System Manager server, Control Department enabled that.

“We are thrilled with the final result, as the lighting design truly transformed our interior, bringing it to life and cultivating an inspiring, dynamic workspace. The collaboration was seamless, and we greatly valued the team’s ongoing engagement and hands-on involvement throughout every step of the process.”

Sebastian Widéen, Architect Supervisor, Eidra

Conclusion

An astonishingly beautiful office, Control Department leveraged the Dynalite System to bring the stunning interior to life.

The optimized scheduling runs like clockwork, and the staff can effortlessly adjust scenes floor-by-floor, or area-by-area based on activity.

Acknowledging that some staff have unique lighting preferences, Control Department did well to balance the creation of beautiful scenes and consistency throughout the office, with intuitive control so staff can customise their lighting experience.

Voted “Sweden’s Most Beautiful Office 2024”, and winner of the Dynalite Partner Awards “Office Application” and “Human-centric Design” categories, the impact of Control Department’s work at Eidra is undeniable.
