Sensors
Sensors provide your lighting control system with valuable information regarding environmental conditions and occupant behaviour.
Network sensors take measurements from the environment and balance this with inputs from the network to create an intelligent response when triggered. They enable energy efficiency, occupant comfort and operational flexibility, all without the need for manual intervention.

What can sensors detect?
All Dynalite sensors support multiple functions at the same time. This enhances efficiency and provides more information to Dynalite’s headend software and/or third-party systems (such as HVAC or BMS) on the local conditions.
The three core functions of all Dynalite sensors are:
Motion detection
Dynalite sensors determine occupancy
by sensing motion across the sensor’s
scan area. The sensor can send control commands based on this data.
Dynalite offers two types of motion detection sensors:
Passive infrared (PIR) detects changes in the temperature of objects within scan range. This requires a line of sight to the occupant.
Ultrasonic sensors actively transmit a high-frequency soundwave, then measures changes in the returning echo to determine occupancy. This provides some detection around obstacles and corners.
Light level
Local light level detection and regulation ensures comfortable, balanced lighting across any environment.
The sensor uses real-time lux measurement to compensate for factors such as reduced brightness from older lamps, daylight coming
in through windows and skylights, or
other external light sources.
Instead of using a fixed threshold point,
Dynalite sensors feature industry-leading granularity in lux measurement,
enabling finely tuned responses to
changing lighting conditions.
IR receive
Dynalite sensors receive RC5 IR commands from any compatible handheld remote, including:
- Network sign-on for device identification during commissioning.
- Preset scene selection.
- Ramping light levels or temperature setpoint.
- Triggering preprogrammed actions, including control of third-party devices connected to the Dynalite system such as motorized blinds and projector screens.
Detection scan types
Our sensors come in two broad categories, 360 degree, or directional.
Very often, both types are used in combination to cover the different requirements of a single area.
360 degree
Typically mounted in the ceiling and away from walls. Ideal for use in large open areas. Good at picking up the slight motion of people sitting down.
Directional
Typically on or close to a wall, directional sensors can have different angles of scan pattern ranges such as 30 or 90 degrees. These are ideal for detecting movement through a doorway, corridor, or in small rooms.
