Lighting Environments

“We’ve been able to use our office for sales demos, client events and industry presentations, thanks in part to the flexibility of the lighting control system in our office.”

Brett Angstadt
Commercial Controls Manager, Lighting Environments

The Challenge

The redesigned space had to demonstrate the benefits of lighting control in a range of applications and help Lighting Environments communicate these benefits to prospective customers.

Key requirements included:

  • Ambient and functional lighting to support
    staff in their day-to-day activities.
  • The flexibility to cater for mixed-use spaces.
An open-protocol system that could easily
integrate with AV, HVAC, blinds, as well as
  • Elevated Environments, the proprietary app
    from Lighting Environments’ sister company.
  • Measures to enhance sustainability, including
    occupancy detection, dimming, scheduling,
    and daylight harvesting.
  • Scalable

The Dynalite system was integrated into the university’s expansive campus. The modularity of the system allows the lighting control system to grow and evolve with the university’s ongoing expansion through a centralised control platform.

  • Innovative

The project integrates Dynalite with multiple third-party systems, including the Q-Sys control system for audio-visual management, the university’s Building Management System (BMS), and a fire alarm relay. This integration creates a unified ecosystem that not only streamlines building operations but also enhances safety and energy management.

  • Sustainable

The Dynalite system is a critical part of the university’s efforts to reduce energy consumption. The system’s energy-efficient features, such as automated scheduling, daylight harvesting, and occupancy sensors, ensure that lighting is used only when necessary, contributing to the university’s broader sustainability goals.

The Solution

Philips Dynalite was the primary lighting control system deployed to showcase Lighting Environments’ smart office. A range of thoughtfully designed features and powerful integration tools work in harmony to create a space that is beautiful, functional, and that supports Lighting Environments in its mission to showcase the potential of smart office spaces.

Beautiful and flexible

Philips Dynalite’s enhanced DALI capabilities allow for easy zoning changes when a room is repurposed. A button-press is all it takes to transform the office space to an after-hours entertaining area.

Similarly, divisions between private meeting rooms and open workspace can be changed easily and efficiently to cater for office growth or special events.

The result is a dynamic space that can be tailored to suit the needs of Lighting Environments’ workforce.

Smart and sustainable

A series of clever integrations have streamlined the experience of occupants and reduced energy consumption.

Building systems such as HVAC are linked with presence detection and lighting schedules to maximize energy efficiency and ensure those amenities are only on when required.

Daylight harvesting has been utilized to further improve sustainability, by reducing artificial light levels in areas with exposure to natural daylight.

Elevated Environments, the proprietary app developed by Lighting Environments’ sister company, Environments, has also been integrated with the Dynalite System, allowing users to interact with the office’s lighting from anywhere.

“Dynalite’s products have helped us create an office space that is comfortable and customizable to our employee and office life needs, and also a stunning example for our customers as we work with them to design their own perfect spaces.”

Erin McDannald
CEO, Lighting Environments

Conclusion

The Dynalite System introduced flexibility to the Lighting Environments office, providing a well-connected point for controls and analytics, offering comfortable and customizable lighting for occupants, and boosting the team’s selling capabilities.

By implementing a DALI system, Lighting Environments avoided wiring changes and expensive construction costs when modifying the systems within its space, future-proofing the office for future refurbishments too.

Ultimately, the Lighting Environments office is now a fantastic showcase of the potential of smart office spaces. Beyond satisfying their own staff, the team has set the stage to delight customers that come in for a demonstration of their capabilities.
